In retaliation to India’s unprecedented move where the country banned 59 Chinese mobile apps, China has reportedly targeted the WION news channel and blocked the access to its website in China. Indian government banned apps due to the violent faceoff between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) at Galwan Valley.

Zee News reported that Beijing has blocked access to WION Website in mainland China. The news has been confirmed by GreatFire.org, a Chinese internet monitoring watchdog which has surfaced as a database for internet censorship in China.

WION has reportedly covered Chinese government's response to the coronavirus pandemic extensively. Beijing has expressed its displeasure over the channel's reportage in a few occasions before.

“In March, the spokesperson of the Chinese foreign ministry, - Zhao Lijian, blocked WION on the social networking site Twitter. Chinese diplomats in India too criticized WION's coverage of the pandemic,” Zee News cited in its report.
