After reports of more than 100 cases of tampered fruit across Australia, some varieties of strawberries in New Zealand's Auckland have been withdrawn as a precautinary measure citing customers' peace of mind and grocers also promised full refunds after needles were found in a box of fruit.

The Australian government passed legislation last week increasing the penalty for food contamination to 10 to 15 years jail.
