Around 360 Elephants Die MYSTERIOUSLY in this Place! What has the Police Found out so Far? Report
Home > News Shots > World newsLocal conservationists of Botswana believe that more than 360 elephants have died under mysterious circumstances and conditions over the last three months. The authorities at the Okavango Panhandle region have stated that they are trying to identify the cause of deaths. Some of them have reportedly simply fallen of their faces.
Poaching cannot be a cause of death since the carcasses of the elephants were intact. “Three laboratories in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Canada have been identified to process the samples taken from the dead elephants,” the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, Conservation and Tourism was quoted as saying in a Reuters report.
A report prepared by the government was reviewed by conservation organization, Elephants Without Borders. According to the report, carcasses were first noticed in May. 169 dead elephants were counted on May 25 and 187 more on June 14.
“Several live elephants that we observed appeared to be weak, lethargic and emaciated. Some elephants appeared disorientated, had difficulty walking, showed signs of partial paralysis or a limp. One elephant was observed walking in circles, unable to change direction although being encouraged by other herd members,” the report stated.
The cause of death is expected to be disease or poisoning. Botswana is home to almost a third of Africa’s elephants and the region has seen numbers grow to 130,000 from 80,000 in the late 1990s.
The government and police are investigating the case and the cause of death has not been identified and confirmed yet.
