No MNP Service for Mobile Subscribers on 6 Days in December - TRAI
Home > News Shots > Technology newsThe Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has announced that the mobile subscribers will not be able to avail Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service on selected 6 days this month. Reportedly the announcement came as the adjustment to new update in the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Seventh Amendment) Regulations, 2018.
From December 16, people can be able to port their mobile numbers from one network to another network within 3-5 days. Generally, the subscribers would have to wait longer to get their number ported to a different network. If a subscriber wants to port their number from one network to another network, a Unique Porting Code (UPC) will have to be generated by sending "PORT" to 1900.
According to the revised rules, the UPC will be generated by the Mobile Number Portability Service Provider (MNPSP). The report also mentioned that the UPC code would be valid only for 4 days for all circles except Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and North East, where the validity of UPC will still be 30 days.
Until December 16, mobile users can generate the UPC and submit their port request to the operator they want to port to till 17:59 pm on December 9, 2019. Due to the change in the process, the MNP services will not be available to mobile subscribers from December 10 to December 15, 2019 (6 days).
TRAI said that the new process will make the connections faster to the subscribers by ensuring smooth porting in a new framework. “In view of the proposed migration to new process, necessary steps will be taken by the telecom service providers in creating awareness and sensitising the mobile subscribers through their websites, call centres, point of sales and their social media platforms such as Facebook page, Twitter handle etc. so that mobile subscribers intending to port their numbers do not face inconvenience," TRAI was quoted as saying by the reports.
