The Indian Institute of Technology Madras is once again in limelight. An IIT(M) incubated startup has developed a unique technology that can help medical professionals in the battle against corona.

The startup has developed MEDICAB, a foldable and portable hospital unit which can be installed anywhere within two hours and it just requires four people to install and operate

The hospital developed by Modulus Housing solution by IIT alumni has four zones which includes a doctor’s room, an isolation room, a medical room/ ward and a twin- bed ICU.

The startup is planning to put these micro-hospitals to use in different parts of the country.

Shreeram Ravichandran, Chief Executive Officer of Modulus Housing, said, "The outcome of this pilot project in Kerala will help in proving the applicability of the technology and advantages of micro-hospitals, with MediCAB as an instant infrastructure solution."

"It is difficult to construct buildings from scratch as the requirement is immediate. As the rural population density is relatively low, more micro-hospitals can help greatly in tackling COVID-19 cases," he added.

Experts deem this as a decentralized approach that helps patients to detect the virus, screen, identify and isolate themselves in their local communities itself.
