267 Million FB Users Data Stolen by Crime Group; Facebook Responds
Home > News Shots > Technology newsFacebook released a statement confirming the investigation over Hijacking FB users data last week. A crime group released the database of 267 million users on a hacker website as per Comparitech.
"We are looking into this issue, but believe this is likely information obtained before changes we made in the past few years to better protect people's information," a Facebook spokesperson was quoted as saying.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, the investigation was launched in March 2018 during which a political firm was found for its engagement in Deceptive practices to harvest personal information from tens of millions of Facebook users for voter profiling and targeting.
Earlier the investigation conducted by Facebook itself found that the data of 87 million users were breached. It was the violation of a social network's terms of service.
It has to be mentioned that Facebook paid a record $5 billion penalties early this year in a settlement with the regulator over mishandling users' private data.
