Plastering Ceremony

Every year at the Vandiyur Theppakulam Mariamman Temple in Madurai, also known as the Thoonga nagaram, a plastering ceremony is held on the eve of the Panguni festival. It is customary to perform the traditional arts of Tamil Nadu at that time.

Accordingly, this year too, the ceremony was held at the Vandiyur Theppakulam Mariamman Temple as Bharatanatyam, Karakattam, Oyilattam, Mayilattam. The festival was attended by a large number of devotees.

Bharatanatyam

The festival was preceded by a Bharatanatyam festival by the famous artist Kalidas and his disciples. Kalidas danced with his disciples. This left the viewers mesmerized. In between, Kalidas suddenly sat up holding his chest and everyone froze in shock not knowing what was going on.

People there were shocked to learn that Kalidas had collapsed on the stage with chest pain and died on the stage.

Art Family

Famous Bharatanatyam dancer Kalidas had a son and a daughter. Kalidas, 54, ran a prom school in Madurai. His son is a mystic. Like her father, daughter is a Bharatanatyam dancer. His wife is a Carnatic music teacher. This tragedy that happened in this family working for art has left everyone upset.

Kalidas, who had performed numerous feats including the 'Adal Vallan' award and the honorary doctorate, lost his life while performing his highly respected Bharatanatyam dance.
