When enrolling children in educational institutions, educational institutions ask for caste and religion in their details. The Tamil Nadu government had earlier announced that those who did not want to mention their caste and religion could ignore the practice, which has been going on for years. In this case, a businessman from Coimbatore has given his daughter a certificate of caste and non-religion.
Naresh Karthik runs a design company in Coimbatore. His daughter Wilma. Naresh, who has now decided to enroll three-and-a-half-year-old Wilma in school, has approached several schools. Naresh has left out the information about the caste and religion of the student in the application form. But Naresh says 22 schools did not give seats to his daughter because of this. He said, "The government of Tamil Nadu had issued a directive in 1973 and 2000 stating that caste and religion should not be mentioned in the application for admission of students to schools. However, caste certificates are required in schools for various reasons, including scholarships."
Following this, Naresh has applied to the Coimbatore District North Dashildar's Office for a certificate stating that his daughter Wilma is a non-caste convert. Now he has got the certificate. Saying that he wants to raise his daughter across caste and religious identities, Naresh said, "This is the first time in the Coimbatore district that such a certificate has been issued.
Naresh, who does not want to mention his daughter's caste and religion, has surprised many by having his daughter certified as non - caste and non - religious.
