The Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital is located opposite the Chennai Central Railway Station. Hundreds of patients are being treated at this hospital. The hospital also has inpatient and outpatient departments. There are also specialized units for treating various ailments.
In this situation, a sudden fire broke out at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital today (27.04.2022). The fire was reported in the liver treatment unit. Thus some of the patients who were admitted there were trapped. As the fire spread, the fire department was immediately notified.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and are trying to put out the blaze. Meanwhile, it has been reported that all the patients who were trapped in the liver treatment unit have been rescued safely. It is also reported that everyone on the premises of the fire has been evacuated.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the fire was caused by a sort circuit. A cylinder placed there exploded in the fire. Thus the situation in the area is in tense. Immediately after that the other cylinders that were there were moved to another location. Minister Subramaniam, who rushed to know about the fire, is consulting with the authorities.
