A couple committed suicide along with their 11-year-old son on Wednesday after they reportedly failed to pay the child's school fee in Tamil Nadu's Nagapattinam district. The father worked as a goldsmith and was the family's sole breadwinner, said police.

According to Times Now reports, the bodies of the three were discovered at their home in Velipalayam area of Nagapattinam by a family friend who went to check in on them after they failed to answer phone calls.

Relative of the deceased revealed that he had been struggling to get loans to pay his son's school fee. However, he could not get it. No suicide note was found from their home.

Reports also say that the child, a student of class 6 at a private school in the city, was found wearing his favourite dress, uniform.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the deceased may have eaten a poison-laced food. However, it is yet to be confirmed until the post-mortem reports are given.

A case has also been registered in this regard with the city police and investigation is on.
