Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had previously issued orders to begin clinical trials of Covishield vaccine. It is now likely to start in Tamil Nadu The vaccine, developed in collaboration with AstraZeneca by Britain’s Oxford University, is considered to be one of the most promising vaccine candidates in the world.
Health Minister, C Vijayabaskar in a press release stated that several studies have proved the effectiveness of Covishield which triggers T-Cell response within 14 days of vaccination and also instigates antibody response within the first 28 days of vaccination. He further added that after the vaccine undergoes successful trials in phase two and three of clinical trials, it will be brought to the public.
On Saturday, after administering the Pudukkottai district’s plans to restrict the spread of the novel coronavirus, health minister C Vijayabaskar said that the vaccine will begin trials in Tamil Nadu in another day or two. He further added that around 180 people will be administered with the vaccine and they will be closely monitored by doctors. Reports will also be published at the end of the trials.
This news comes as a sigh of relief as a total of 5,783 people have tested positive for the infection as on September 6, taking the total number of active cases to 51,458.
