Tamil Nadu Govt Releases List of 16 Districts that Have Containment Zones
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsTamil Nadu has a total of 316 containment zones as on 5 June. Interestingly, all these containment zones are from only 16 districts and the State Health Department has released detailed breakup of the same.
Chennai which has emerged as an epicentre accounts for 201 containment zones in the State while its neighbouring districts such as Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram have 7 and 13 containments zones respectively.
Thiruvannamalai (29) has the second maximum number of containment zones followed by Cuddalore (26).
Rest districts on the list include Ariyalur (3), Kallakurichi (5), Kanyakumari (1), Nagapattinam (9), Ramanathapuram (1), Ranipet (1), Tenkasi (6), Thanjavur (1), Thoothukudi (2), Tirunelveli (7) and Tirupattur (4).
As on June 8, Tamil Nadu has reported 33,229 confirmed cases of COVID-19 including 15,413 active cases, 17,527 recoveries and 286 deaths. On Monday alone, the State reported 1,562 fresh cases of the virus – highest single-day spike so far. 1149 of the fresh cases were from Chennai.
With 23,298 confirmed COVID-19 cases as on Monday, Chennai alone accounts for 70.11 per cent of the total cases in Tamil Nadu.
