TN CM Declares Public Holiday Tomorrow As Cyclone Nivar Set to Intensify

As Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry is all set to face the heavy rain and cyclone; nearly thirty teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been pressed into action as Cyclone Nivar moves towards the southern coast of India.

Meanwhile, IMD Amaravati, in-charge S Stella said cyclone Nivar, after making landfall between Karaikal and Mamallapuram in Tamil Naidu on Wednesday (November 25) afternoon, is likely to move north, north-westwards. 

Keeping in mind the worst that Vardah did in 2016, the IMD has red alerted places like Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi and Perambalur.

An orange alert is also issued in north coastal districts like Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpet and interior districts like Vellore, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur and Krishnagiri. 

According to New Indian Express Report, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has declared public holiday tomorrow in view of cyclone Nivar. He has also appealed to people not to venture out of their residences unnecessarily and to adhere to the guidelines issued by the government.

Meanwhile, Palaniswami further issued orders to release water from Chembarambakkam lake, in case the level rises above 22 feet. Currently, it is 21.2 feet. Currently, Southern Railway has even made changes in the operation of many trains in view of cyclone Nivar. 

As per the recent update, Cyclone Nivar is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm at the time of landfall with a wind speed of 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph.
