Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsAdvanced 24*7 CCTV cameras under the 'Third Eye' scheme have been placed in various places of Chennai to increase the protection of the people in the city. According to Puthiya Thalaimurai report, the cameras could be able to capture the number plates of the vehicles precisely and this feature is termed as 'Automatic Number Plate Recognition'(ANPR).
While even the small streets of Chennai are being monitored by CCTV cameras, the Chennai police have taken a step ahead to optimise the security systems. These advanced cameras were already placed in some areas of the city. The latest areas to get 'Third Eye' CCTV cameras include Nandanam Junction, Halda Junction and Tidle Park Junction.
Reportedly the 'Third Eye' cameras would work with high efficiency even in the nights. Chennai Police Commissioner A K Vishwanathan said that "We have reached a state where if a vehicle enters into the city of Chennai, it cannot get through without appearing in police surveillance systems. We get to identify 76% of hit and run cases generally"

Traffic violations such as Rash Driving, Overspeed, Disobeying signals etc will, therefore, be monitored by the newly set up 'Third Eye' cameras. If a vehicle gets stolen, the concerned owner can reach out to the police control room with the details of the stolen vehicle's number plate. The police in the control room will feed the number plate details on their systems. The details will be obtained by the advanced 'Third Eye' CCTV cameras which will automatically detect if the stolen vehicle is found anywhere in the city and notify the control room.
