TN - 64-yr-old rapes minor and transmits STD, gets two life sentences

A 64-year-old man was awarded two life sentences by a court in Thanjavur for raping and transmitting a sexually transmitted disease (STD) to an 11-year-old girl.

 

The incident reportedly took place in 2012. The accused, Ramayan was a farmer from Orathanadu district. He befriended the victim and had raped her. The girl fell sick and was admitted to the hospital. It was found that she was raped and contracted an STD.

 

A case was registered against the man under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. On Thursday, the Thanjavur Women's Court judge Balakrishnan gave Ramayan two life sentences and also slapped a fine of Rs 2,500.
