Tamilnadu Chief Minister Mr Edappadi K Palanisamy has announced that two new districts will be added to the state which will further divide Tamilnadu into 35 districts. Reportedly there has been a long-pending demand from the people of Tenkasi who wanted a separate district.

According to CM’s latest announcement, Tenkasi will be separated from Tirunelveli district. Also, Chengalpattu will become a separate district which is now under Kanchipuram. The tourist attraction of Courtallam near Tenkasi has also been taken into consideration to claim an individual identity for Tenkasi.

Reportedly Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy has announced Tenkasi and Chengalpattu as separate districts under Article 110 at the State Legislative Assembly. The decision involves the financial expansion of both the places and is taken after consulting with the Revenue Minister Mr R.B. Udhaya Kumar.

The reports also reveal R.B.Udhaya Kumar speaking at the assembly in favour of Kumbakonam which is also under consideration to be announced as a separate district. Reportedly, Tenkasi and Tirunelveli will have new government officials. Earlier Kallakurichi from Villupuram was announced as a separate district but it was not implemented as per the reports. Therefore, the people of Tenkasi and Chengalpattu do not want the announcement to be left as it is, instead they are desperately looking for the immediate action of the government.
