The Tamil Nadu Police on Sunday announced that ePass is compulsory for anyone who is travelling from one district to another, even after August 17.
Previously, a ban on travelling in-between districts was imposed in order to control the spread of the novel coronavirus infection. However, it was announced that ePasses will only be issued under unavoidable circumstances, medical emergencies, deaths, or weddings.
The State government had however announced that people can avail an ePass from August 17 (Monday) for all purposes of travel. CM Palaniswami announced the same, and urged people to apply for an ePass. The Tamil Nadu Police have reinforced that although an ePass will be issued to everyone, people must not travel without one.
The Police department said that the CM has only announced that everyone who has applied for an ePass will be awarded one with simple Aadhar details, but he has not said that people can travel without one. The police also added that strict action will be taken against anyone who forfeits the law.
