DMK veteran Dr M Karunanidhi passed away at the Kauvery Hospital on August 7 at 6.10 pm following a decline in his health. The five-time former CM was admitted to the hospital on July 26 following a fever due to urinary tract infection.

 

His body was kept at his residence in Gopalapuram for a few hours and then taken to his residence at CIT Nagar as well. After 3 am, Kalaignar's body was taken to Rajaji Memorial Hall for public view.

 

Many rushed to pay homage to the DMK leader, due to which a massive crowd gathered at the hall. Addressing the crowd, DMK working president MK Stalin requested everyone to disperse. He said, "Those who are in power are trying to create chaos, but you have all shown the strength of the cadres. I appeal to everyone to maintain peace."
