Madras High Court Delivers Judgment in Case Against Rajinikanth

Superstar Rajinikanth recently courted trouble for his remarks about a 1971 Periyar rally where naked idols of Ram and Sita were taken on a procession with garlands made of chappals, at the golden anniversary celebrations of Thuglak magazine, founded by late Cho Ramasamy.

Soon enough, Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam had filed a case against the actor for defaming the Dravida Kazhagam founder. DVK alleged that the statements employed by the actor were false and urged the cops to swing into action. They also threatened to protest outside theatres screening Darbar, the actor’s most recent release.

Now, in what comes across as a relief for the actor, the Madras High Court has dismissed the petition filed by DVK and also raised questions as to why the petitioner had approached the court within 15 days of filing a complaint when the usual norm was to seek the police first and then a local magistrate.

As far as the controversy is concerned, citing an Outlook magazine article, Rajinikanth had refused to apologise saying he has based his statements on facts, which even media had reported.
