Chennai: Rail-Based Transit System to Reduce Traffic Across Two Locations; People Rejoice!
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsTamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, on Monday, spoke on how the traffic congestion on the Velachery-Tambaram corridor is increasing and how the government of India would establish a rail-based transit system to make transportation easier.
He also said Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) would be conducting feasibility studies and prepare a detailed project report to establish a metro line or light metro line for a total of 15.5 km
According to a report by Live Chennai, some sources say that the new transit line would come up along the Velachery Main Road.
“These localities are fast developing and if this link is connected, commuters can reach Tambaram to travel to Guduvanchery and beyond," an official was quoted as saying by TOI.
The feasibility study will involve collecting extensive data on public transport users and private vehicles using the route. Based on the current passenger traffic a forecast for the coming decades and peak hour traffic will be assessed.
