According to reports, a special bench of the Madras High Court stated that the Tamil Nadu government should not only rely on Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) for its revenue.

Recently, Ram Kumar filed a petition at the Madras HC to ban the sale of liquor to youngsters and a reduction in the time limit for TASMAC shops across the state. He also petitioned n alert banner to b placed on TASMAC shops to show that liquor drinking is injurious to health.

The bench observed that there is no point in revising the timings of the sale of alcohol as it is already available 24*7. It also raised the question if rules regarding liquor sale in the state are being followed and if there are CCTV cameras installed in TASMAC shops and bars. The Madras HC asked the TN government should not only depend on TASMAC sales for revenue.
