Karunanidhi holds this unique record in Indian Politics

DMK President M Karunanidhi on Friday became the first Indian political figure to lead a party for 50 years.

Karunanidhi was elected as chief of regional party Dravida Munetra Kazhagam (DMK) on July 27, 1969, and the 94-year-old leader has served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu five times.

However, due to deteriorating health issues, his son MK Stalin was appointed as DMK's Working President in 2017.

The DMK patriarch is recovering from a urinary tract infection and several leaders including AIADMK's O Panneerselvam and Kamal Haasan of Makkal Needhi Maiam paid a visit to the revered leader's residence on Friday.
