Chennai has not been under the receiving end of rain this year so far. According to reports, the rainfall reported in Chennai from October 1 to December 5 has been at a 51 per cent deficit. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Chennai may receive its share of rain this weekend.

Reportedly, a low pressure has formed over the Bay of Bengal which will bring heavy rainfall to Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu this weekend. The IMD said, "The low-pressure area over central parts of the South Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Oceans is likely to intensify into a deep depression during the next three days, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall in the south coastal Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu."

For the next 48 hours, Chennai will witness cloudy skies. Winds are expected to reach a speed of 50-60 km/hr. It is, however, still not clear as to how intense the rain spells are going to be.
