FASTag mandatory for all vehicles - What about Chennai?

Earlier the last date was announced as December 1. However, now it has been extended to December 15. However, officials have said that Chennai won't use FASTags, reports News 18 Tamil.
Earlier, people have to pay the money in cash, however, with FASTag, people can scan and pass. Toll plazas in Perungudi, Shollinganallur, Navalur, Medavakkam, Thoraipakkam, etc will accept direct payment.
However, people around the toll booth have requested that it would be better with FASTag as the traffic is too high due to the direct payment issue.
