Chennai Family of Frauds: 15-Year Old Brother, 13-Year Old Sister and Grandma
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsA complete drama carefully planned and executed by a whole family in Chennai has come into light after a series of investigations by the Ambattur police. The incident happened in Kallikupam, Perumal Kovil Street Ambattur in Thangaraj (45) family. Thangaraj works as an auto driver. He lives with his wife Sivagami (38) and they have two children - 15-year-old Son and 13-year-old Daughter. On the day of the incident, Thangaraj and Sivagami had gone out while Pushpa (Mother of Sivagami) stayed in the house with her two grandchildren.
Grandma's Shock
Pushpa was shocked to see her 13-year-old granddaughter lying unconscious on the floor when she came out after bathing. The 15-year-old boy looked deeply disturbed near his sister. He told his grandmother, "Sister is lying in unconscious state grandma. Our bureau is broken".
Pushpa splattered some water over the face of her daughter and woke her up. She said "Grandma someone entered into our house and gaged me with a kerchief. I don't know what happened after that".
Meanwhile, Pushpa called the police and informed about the theft in her house. Reportedly she had informed police that Rs 45, 000 and some ounces of gold went missing. She also called Thangaraj and Sivagami who returned home immediately.
Police Entry
Inspector Chidambara Murugesan and Sub Inspector Syed Mubarak who come under the jurisdiction of Assistant Commissioner Kannan handled the case. Initially, they probed the boy and girl. The girl looked disturbed and said the same thing that she told her grandma. The police also probed other family members.
CCTV and Neighborhood Theft
The police officers analyzed the CCTV footage and found nobody in that area at the specified timing of the theft. They investigated one of the neighbourhood houses. The neighbourhood family told someone had stolen a laptop and mobile phone from their house a few months ago but did not make a police complaint. The police officers got the IMEI number of the stolen mobile phone and proceeded the investigation.
Twist in Investigation
The police traced the mobile phone and contacted the person using the phone. The person claimed that he got the mobile phone from somebody for second-hand price. The person who sold the mobile said that he got the mobile from 'somebody else'.
'Somebody Else' Found
Finally, Inspector Murugesan and Sub Inspector Syed Mubarak were in total shock when they learnt that it was the 15-year-old boy who had stolen the mobile phone from neighbourhood home and sold it. During the investigation, the boy said that he wanted to buy a drone since most of his friends were having it and so he robbed the mobile phone.
The entire family had hidden the theft and did not tell anyone outside. Similarly, the 'Grandma's Shock' incident written above was also completely staged by the boy and his 13-year-old sister. The boy broke the bureau, took Rs 36, 000 and gave it to his friend to safeguard. The boy convinced his sister saying, "I will buy you a mobile phone if you act as I say".
Grandma's Fraud
Adding to the frustration of police officers, the Grandma was caught making a false complaint. Instead of Rs 36, 000 she had made a false theft complaint for Rs 45,000 and a few ounces of gold. It was revealed that the Grandma had stored the gold in a pawn shop in Gummidipundi and pretended falsely to the police.
Police Action and Warning
The police took action on the 15-year-old boy and warned the entire family not to involve in such acts in the future. Further, the police also took the drone that the boy bought out of the money obtained from selling stolen laptop and mobile phone.
