Thirunavukkarasar of the Congress appears to have gained an unassailable lead having won 6,15,667 votes. Everybody who contested against him lost deposit and his closest competitor was Elangovan of DMDK with 1,61,379 votes.
He has secured 59.2% of the total votes. NOTA got over 13,000 votes, falling sixth in line.
Thirunavukkarasar of the Congress contested against V Elangovan of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK). The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) fielded Surubala Thondaiman while the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) was represented by V Ananda Raja. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate was S Balamurugan and the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) candidate was Vinodh.
