An elephant calf, less than a year old, was trapped in Coimbatore's Varattupallam dam.

According to Times of India (TOI), the elephant calf had come with its mother to drink water in the wee hours of Sunday morning and might have slipped into the canal while drinking water. After which this calf was abandoned by its herd; also the cement walls made it impossible for the poor animal to climb out.

On seeing the terrified calf, farmers alerted forest officials who reached the spot on an immediate call.

They entered the canal with a few locals and tried to help the calf but the terrified animal tried to attack them many a times.

Somehow, the rescue official team managed to corner the calf and lifted it out of the canal.
