Chennai's Second Biggest Railway Station Causes Confusion For Passengers
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsBeing the second biggest Railway Station in Chennai, the Egmore Railway station seems to be lacking proper signage and guidelines for passengers. As per TOI report, the station did not have proper information boards containing the necessary platform details and trains to guide passengers. The issue prevails mainly at the western entrance that leads to Gandhi-Irwin Road where many passengers and visitors arrive.
Though there are around 8 big advertisement hoardings in the station campus, only small TV sets are available for passengers displaying train details. Previously, there was a giant board containing the information on trains but it was converted into a flex banner hoarding later.
On Sunday (September 15), several passengers were unsure about the platforms and had to ask the auto and cab drivers for the information. While the lack of information boards is one issue, the multiple platforms without proper signboards have been causing confusion for the passengers.
“Contract was awarded in March. The contractor was supposed to install boards by June. It seems there is a problem with the contractor. So, the delay. The plan is to have good, legible boards showing trains and platform numbers,” one of the railway officials was quoted as saying by TOI.
