CM Edappadi Opposes NEP’s Three-Language Policy : “…Will Never Allow this in TN” – Details
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu news The New Education Policy 2020 has mandated a three-language policy. This policy has been very much stressed upon for all states across the country. However, on Monday, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami took exception.
The CM said that this latest policy will not be allowed in Tamil Nadu. He added that only a two-language policy will be allowed in the state.
"The people of Tamil Nadu and most of the political parties including the AIADMK wish that only two-language policy should be in force in the State. As such, it is saddening to note that the NEP has stressed three-language policy," the Chief Minister said in his statement here.
"Though the NEP has three language policy, the AIADMK government will never ever allow this in Tamil Nadu. Instead, it will continue to adhere to the two-language policy. The Centre should accept the overall view of the people of Tamil Nadu in this regard and should reconsider its stand on the three-language policy. I appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allow the States to implement their own language policy according to their views," he added.
While the NEP does not mandate or force Hindi upon non-Hindi speaking states, it has stated that 2 out of the 3 languages must be native to India.
Stating that the state has been very particular about not implementing more than two languages, he also recalled how several political parties who rules the state have opposed to Hindi being forced upon a non-Hindi speaking state.
