According to reports, the Dravidar Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has requested for the late DMK Chief Dr M Karunanidhi to be honoured with a Bharat Ratna.

 

Kalaignar Karunanidhi passed away recently on August 7 at the Kauvery Hospital due to a brief illness. His death left millions of Tamilians in shock. Kalaignar was not just a charismatic politician, but also a passionate contributor to arts.

 

The five-time TN CM was an eminent writer and a film personality. His literary works include the brilliant Tholkappiya Poonga and Kuraloviyam. He has also written scripts for more than 75 movies.

 

DMK's MP Tiruchi N Siva brought up the request while attending the monsoon session at Rajya Sabha.
