It's official! DMK and Congress join hands for Lok Sabha elections

A day after political rivals BJP and AIADMK joined hands to contest for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, DMK announced its alliance with Congress.

The announcement was made by DMK President MK Stalin on Wednesday at the DMK headquarters. He said, "For the 2019 elections, I, the DMK Chief and Congress Chief KS Alagiri have held discussions. We are giving 10 Seats to Congress.”

Congress election in-charge for Tamil Nadu Mukul Wasnik visited Chennai with the General Secretary of Congress, KC Venugopal and met with Stalin on Wednesday. Venugopal reportedly said, "The country very much needed this alliance. The country is disappointed at Narendra Modi. What he promised in the election, nothing has been fulfilled in the last five years...We are not first-time allies. Congress and DMK are long-term partners… We are expecting a very good result in Tamil Nadu."

Reportedly, out of the 10 seats allotted for Congress, nine will be in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry. The DMK has already allied with Congress n 1980, 2004,  and in 2009 Lok Sabha Elections.
