Sambar meal killed tiger in Tamil Nadu?
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsA 6-year-old tiger was found dead near Parsons Valley Reservoir in Nilgiris by anti-poaching gaurds who were patrolling. Seeing his bosy bloated, the officials suspected he must have died 3 days ago, reports TNIE.
Initially there were suspecions of poisoning by the locals as tigers are a threat to them, but later postmortem examination was done to find out the exact reason for the death.
Reportedly, the tiger suffered from indigestion and there were traces of sambar deer in his throat which could have blocked him from breathing.
The tiger must have vomited and there was also a piece of blade in his intestine. Reportedly, the sambar might have eaten garbage like sambars and bisons do in the area and the blade might have entered tiger through sambar deer, said the District Forest Officer.
There were also tapeworms in the tiger's intestine, which are generally found in goats. The postmortem reports are yet to be obtained.
