An 8-month-old child in Chennai's Maduravoyal died on Sunday night due to dengue. Officials are suspecting dengue to be the reason for a 6-year-old girl's death in Mogappair, reports Times of India.

“We have been receiving cases of dengue from these neighbourhoods in the past few weeks. There has been a spike in fever cases, including dengue, from across the city. Most of the patients have recovered without complications,” said a senior official. They also said that they have initiated  vector control measures.

The 8-month-old boy was admitted in the hospital when he was very sick. His kidneys and liver failed which led to his death. The 6-year-old was admitted with fever and pneumonia.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne (Aedes) viral infection which causes flu at times leading to death. Symptoms include joint pain, muscle pain, headache, fever, etc. It can also lower blood platelet count. There is no specific medicine or anitbiotic to treat it.
