Dead woman demands benefits from Railways post husband's death
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsIn Chennai, a 58-year-old widow of a railway employee is shocked to know that her husband had declared her dead in his employment records and had entered another woman's name as his wife.
Jamila Beevi is now seeking help from district legal services authority to get the benefits from railway department for her and her son. According to Indian Express, she married him in 1970 amid opposition from her family as he was a hindu. He left her in 1992 after living with her for 22 years.
She had managed to live with her son with the income she earned doing odd jobs. When he died last year, she thought she can avail benefits. But in a shocking revelation she came to know that her husband had submitted a death certificate for her in 2003 and declared Lalitha Devi his wife.
The authorities have now withheld the benefits from going to Lalitha and are investigating on the issuance of death certificate. Lalitha said she doesn't have a child and that she wants Jamila's son to get a job on compassionate grounds.
