Cyclone Nivar: IMD Shares Details As To When Will Storm Cross TN, Puducherry and Wind Speed
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsAs the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry witness severe cyclonic storms, reports claim that it may intensify into a “very severe cyclonic storm” with a wind speed of 120 to 130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph.
Cyclone Nivar, which has already intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the southwest Bay of Bengal, has moved west-northwest wards with a speed of 6kmph in the past six hours and lay centred over southwest Bay of Bengal about 300km east-southeast of Cuddalore, about 310km east southeast of Puducherry and 370km south southeast of Chennai.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), who earlier stated that a cyclone was going to make landfall in the evening, updated the forecast to late Wednesday in its 6:00 am bulletin.
With recent updates, Nivar is expected to make landfall between Mamallapuram and Karaikal. It is likely to cross between Mamallapuram and Karaikal during midnight of Wednesday and early hours of November 26, as per India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to a Hindustan Times report, Chennai Corporation Commissioner Thiru. Prakash has instructed officials to remove all the hoardings and banners in the city before 12:00 pm to avoid any danger during this crucial time, AIADMK said in a tweet.
Looking into the weather update, Chennai is witnessing heavy rainfall from the past two days. Due to the prevailing weather, Cyclone Nivar is set to make landfall tonight.
