Corona in Chennai: Why Chennai has seen a Rapid rise in COVID19 cases? Special Officer J Radhakrishnan Explains!
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsThe Special Nodal officer for Greater Chennai Corporation, J Radhakrishnan said on Sunday that aggressive testing was the reason behind the rise in number of cases in Chennai. He urged the public to be more co-operative towards the corporation officials especially in the containment zones.
As per Times of India’s report, Radhakrishnan, commissioner for revenue administration and disaster management, while addressing the media persons at the regional deputy commissioner’s office said that the most of the cases are being registered from five zones namely, Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Teynampet and Kodambakkam ( Zone 4,5,6,9 and 10) out of the 15 zones.
“Majority of the cases are from these zones. We have intensified containment in these zones, "he said. As per the latest area wise split up of coronavirus cases in Chennai, out of 1,257 cases in the city, 938 are from these five zones.
He also appealed to citizens to wear masks and follow social distancing norms to fight the virus. He mentioned about the importance of getting themselves checked if they showed symptoms.
“Even in containment zones, people are not wearing masks. Two layers of cloth is enough for mask. Even yesterday, while on rounds from Central to Basic Bridge, we noticed people were roaming without masks. There is casualness. In Anna Nagar tower park, we see people walking without masks. When we ask, people say they don’t have symptoms. That should not be a reason,” TOI cited his statement in its report on the subject.
