When the bus conductor asked the man for a ticket, he had claimed his identity as a police officer. Then, the conductor asked him to flash his ID card which did not go well with the police officer. Therefore an argument broke out between conductor Gopinath and the police officer Pazhanivel.
As per Puthiya Thalaimurai, the argument increased its pace and continued until the next 10 Kms. It was stated that the passengers in the bus sided by Gopinath and raised voice against Pazhanivel. At one point, Gopinath lost his conscience and collapsed on the floor of the bus. The passengers in the bus took Gopinath to the nearby hospital where he was declared dead.
The information reached the police officers for them to arrive at the hospital. Then, they rescued Pazhanivel who was held by the crowd and took him to the police station for further investigation.
