A new update on former CM Jayalalitha’s Death Case
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsThe death of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayalalitha has been under investigation by the Arumughaswamy Commission since August 2017. The commission was appointed by present Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy to inquire into Jaya’s death. A while ago, the Arumughaswamy commission has filed a petition in Supreme Court against the plea of Apollo Hospitals.
On April 26, 2019, Apollo Hospitals had filed a petition in the Supreme Court after the Madras High Court rejected their plea to withhold the enquiry of Arumughaswamy commission. Reportedly the hospital management wanted the commission to set up a 21-member panel consisting of medical experts to look into the medical history of the treatment provided to Jayalalitha.
The Supreme Court bench ordered a stay within minutes for the commission in spite of further argument that 90% of the enquiry had been completed. On July 30 (Today), the Arumughaswamy Commission has issued a petition reverting to Apollo Hospital’s plea stating that “The investigation on Jaya’s death is going on the right path”. Further, the reports quote the commission saying, “The Apollo hospitals management is fearing if the commission will decode any mistakes committed by them”.
The commission has submitted a petition in the Supreme Court to lift the stay for them to continue the investigation on Jaya’s death case. Former TN Chief Minister J Jayalalitha was admitted at the Apollo Hospital, Chennai on September 22, 2016, and after a 75-day hospitalisation she was declared dead on December 5, 2016.
