Thousands of People Participate in Protest March Against CAA In Chennai, Security Beefed Up!
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsTamil Nadu's capital city Chennai has been witnessing 'A Shaheen Bagh'-like stir against the CAA in the Old Washermanpet area past few days. The protest was mainly led by groups of women and children from the Muslim community, who have been raising slogans of Azaadi (freedom) in front of the police station in Washermanpet in North Chennai on February 16.
After days of agitation, several Muslim outfits today held protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) where a large number of Muslims men and women were seen holding procession from Kalaivanar Arangam to lay siege of the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
The protesters were also seen carrying tricolour in their hands. The motive of this protest is to pass a resolution in the Assembly to the effect that CAA will not be implemented in the state.
According to The Hindu reports, the procession is held after Madras High Court denied permission to hold the same on February 18. Looking at this protest, the security has been beefed up near the Assembly to prevent any untoward incidents.
Similar protests are also being held in other parts of the state like Trichy, Cuddalore, Tiruvannamalai Madurai, Kanyakumari and others smaller districts.
