Update on Number of Red Zone Districts; Other Latest Reports on COVID19 in Tamil Nadu
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsAs the nation wide lockdown is about to end on May 3, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare marked 12 districts in Tamil Nadu as red zone. They have also indicated a need for critical intervention to manage the COVID-19 spread in the state.
As per a press release sent by the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the red zone districts have been identified after a meeting with the Chief Secretaries and the Health Secretaries of all the states. The meeting was held on Thursday.
In the letter, the Union Ministry classified the district into three zones which are red, orange and green. Below is the list of 12 districts in Tamil Nadu:
In red zones: Chennai (906 cases), Madurai (84), Namakkal (61), Thanjavur (55), Chengalpattu (78), Thiruvallur (55), Tiruppur (112), Ranipet (40), Virudhunagar (32) and Thiruvarur (29).
While the other, 24 districts have been marked as orange zones which are; Theni, Tenkasi, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Villupuram, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Salem, Karur, Thoothukudi, Trichy, Tirupattur, Kanyakumari, Tiruvannamalai, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Nilgiris, Sivagangai, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Erode, Pudukottai and Dharmapuri have been classified as orange zones.
Krishnagiri is the only district in Tamil Nadu which has been marked as a green zone.
