It is not just the heat but also the water crisis that has hit Tamil Nadu and people are suffering due to it. In such a situation, where every drop of water is costly and precious, thousands of litres of drinking water was wasted due to a major leak in a drinking water pipe near Kulithalai in Karur district.

The shocking wastage of a crucial resource from the pipeline (that was meant to carry water to Trichy district) lasted for at least 30 minutes, reports Times Now. It was carrying Cauvery water and the leak was plugged only after the intervention of the local residents.

Earlier Madras High Court slammed the state government for failing to take appropriate measures to tackle water crisis. The court also directed the secretary of the public works department (PWD) to submit a comprehensive report on the desilting of water bodies and other measures taken to deal with the acute shortage of water in various parts of the state.

Reportedly, due to shortage of water, residents in Chennai are buying water at a high price. Many locals also allege that the tanker water availability is also scare lately and they go days without water.
