Rahul made his debut for the Indian cricket team in 2014. He has so far played in 43 Tests, 42 ODIs and 56 T20I matches. However, Rahul jokingly said that his parents' expectations were different.

Speaking about his mother, Rahul said, "My mother still gives me s**t for not having a degree. Even during lockdown she said ‘why don’t you finish your 30 papers? Why don’t you sit down and write it and get a degree." The LSG captain once asked, "Mom, what do you want me to do? Like I’m playing cricket, doing well for myself, you want me to go write 30 papers? Her mother was like, ‘Yeah, why not?”

He said, "Both my mother and father are professors. I was well educated till my tenth standard. After that I was confused as to whether to go for science or take commerce. My parents thought I should not go for commerce but I chose cricket."

Government Jobs

When he joined the Indian cricket team, Rahul got a job with the Reserve Bank of India. Speaking on the occasion, Rahul said, "The happiest they’ve been is when I got an RBI job. Got a central government job, so they were happy. I had played four years for India already but that didn’t make them happy. This was like, yes now you’ll be stable."

Captain

Action player Rahul had previously captained the Punjab team. The Lucknow Super Giants bought Rahul in a mega auction in Bangalore last February. Following this, Rahul will be playing as the captain of the team.
