Home > News Shots > Sports newsLucknow set a historic record in the IPL match against Kolkata.
The 66th league match of the IPL series was played yesterday (18.05.2022) at the Mumbai Stadium. The Kolkata Knight Riders, led by Shreyas Iyer, will take on the Lucknow Super Giants, led by KL Rahul. Lucknow won the toss and elected to bat first.
Accordingly, captain KL Rahul and wicketkeeper de Kock were the opening batsmen. From the start the pair revealed action play. In particular, de Kock hit a six and a four. The Kolkata bowlers tried hard to break the partnership. But they could not get both of them out until the end.
So at the end of 20 overs, the Lucknow team scored 210 runs without losing a wicket. De Kock scored 140 (10 fours, 10 sixes) and KL Rahul 68 (3 fours, 4 sixes). The duo hold the record for the most runs scored by a partnership opener in the history of the IPL.
Lucknow also became the first team to play 20 overs without losing a wicket. But the Virat Kohli-AB de Villiers partnership of Bangalore tops the list of the pair that have formed the highest run partnership. The pair formed a partnership of 229 runs against the Gujarat Lions in the 2016 IPL.
The 8th Behindwoods Gold Medals Awards will be held this year on May 21 and 22 at the Island Ground in Chennai Island from 6pm to 11.30pm. Ticket booking for this is currently underway.
