Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma's dismissal in the match against Kolkata has caused controversy.

Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders clashed in the 56th league match of the IPL yesterday. Mumbai won the toss and elected to bowl Batting first, Kolkata scored 165 for 9 in 20 overs.

Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana top-scored with 43 each. For Mumbai, Bumrah took 5 wickets, Kumar Karthikeyan took 2 wickets and Daniel Sams and Murugan Aswin took 1 wicket each.

This was followed by a shock start to the Mumbai team, which set a target of 166 for victory. The last ball of the first over of the match thrown by Tim Southee was bowled as a short length delivery. Rohit Sharma tried to hit it in the leg side direction.

But the ball in the bat did not hit properly and went to the wicket keeper. Immediately, wicketkeeper Sheldon Jackson asked the umpire out, saying he was a batsman. But the field umpire did not give out. Following this, Captain Shreyas Iyer asked the third umpire for a review.

When replayed after this, it was revealed on the ultra edge that the ball had hit the foot pad before it hit the bat. Thus the Mumbai fans were somewhat relieved. But to everyone's surprise, the third umpire announced his dismissal.
