Former captain of the Indian cricket team, MS Dhoni has made many historic achievements in international cricket. He is the only captain to have won the T20, ODI and Champions Trophy in three ICC World Cups.

Dhoni retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020. He is currently leading the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL series under his captaincy. Not to be forgotten, the CSK team led by him had won the IPL trophy four times.

Like Dhoni, people also have noticed his iconic jersey number 7 and are wondering as to why does the captian always choose number 7. Some have even thought that this might be his lucky number, which is he often uses this number. Now, the cricketer has explained the real reason behind this number.

He said, "A lot of people initially thought that 7 is a lucky number for me and all of that. But I chose the number for a very simple reason. I was born on the 7th of July. So it's the 7th day of the 7th month, that was the reason."

He further said, "Rather than getting to all the different things as to what number is a good number and all, I thought I will use my date of birth as the number. Then whenever people kept asking me, I kept adding to the answer. 81 was the year, 8-1 is again 7, 7 is a very neutral number. People actually kept telling me, I started absorbing it and I started telling it to others in the same way. I am not very superstitious about it but it's one number that is close to my heart. So, I've kept it with me."
