Yet another feather in the cap for our Indian skipper, Virat Kohli as he went past Australia's Steve Smith and became the No.1 Test batsman in the world. The news was confirmed by International Cricket Council (ICC) in a press release.
Reportedly, Kohli is the seventh Indian cricketer to have achieved this feat. He is also the first Indian to achieve this milestone after Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar in 2011.
Steve Smith had been holding on to the title since December 2015. Kohli now leads the former Australian captain by five points. According to ICC, Kohli will have to maintain his current form throughout the series against England to finish as the world's highest-ranked test batsman.
Including Kohli and Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag and Dilip Vengsarkar have achieved this massive feat during their careers.
