Earlier this season,in the match against the Mumbai Indians, he went past 5000 runs in IPL, and was second to reach the milestone after Suresh Raina. He was also the fastest to get to 5000 IPL runs as he got it in just 158 innings.

Now, in the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Virat Kohli has become the second batsman from India to reach 8000 T20 runs after Suresh Raina. He has managed to achieve this feat in just 256 matches.

Chris Gayle is the leader in this format with 12,417 runs, and is the only batsman with over 10,000 runs in T20 cricket. With the way Kohli has been playing and the amount of cricket he has left in him, he can well become the leading run scorer by the end of his career.
