‘16 Years’ of Cricketing Career Ends; Star Cricketer Retires!

The younger generation of cricketers is being roped into international cricket by World teams which eventually gives space for the experienced men in the ‘gentlemen sport’ retire from International Cricket. Of late, Srilanka’s pace bowler known for his deadly action, Lasith Malinga retired from International Cricket. The 35-year-old will play his last game on July 26 at Colombo against Bangladesh.

Not just SriLankan fans but also people who adore Malinga’s temperament on-field expressed their disappointment. Now, Srilanka’s another pace bowler, Nuwan Kulasekara has decided to put an end to his 16 years of cricketing career. According to the report by CricketNext, Kulasekara has decided to retire from international cricket with immediate effect on July 24 (Wednesday).

Kulasekara made his debut against England in 2003 while he was 21 years old. He has also proved himself as a capable lower-order batsman. He has played 184 ODI games and picked a total of 199 wickets. He made his test debut in 2007 and took 48 wickets in his test career. His best ODI figure is 5 for 22 against Australia in 2012 while his best test figure is 4 for 21 against Pakistan in 2009.

Kulasekara and Lasith Malinga share a common figure in T20s where both of them have taken 66 wickets in 58 games. Nuwan Kulasekara played his last game for Srilanka in 2017. He was also a part of Srilanka’s T20 World Cup Squad in 2014 that won the tournament.
