Shikhar Dhawan Shares A Glimpse of Team India’s New Jersey; Fans Say Very Similar to 1992 World Cup Jersey
Home > News Shots > Sports newsWith just few more days left for the Australia series to begin, India opener Shikhar Dhawan shared a picture on social media where he is seen sporting a "new jersey" for the upcoming limited-overs series in Sydney which begins from November 27.
Taking to his social media account, Dhawan shared a glimpse of India’s new ODI jersey which resembles the kit India wore in the 1992 ODI World Cup played in Australia and New Zealand.
He posted the photo with a caption saying, “New jersey, renewed motivation, ready to go."
Taking a look at the new jersey, the T-shirt is of navy blue colour and has coloured stripes on the shoulder. It also has the names of Team India’s new principle sponsors Byju’s and kit sponsors MPL.
However, Cricket Australia started the trend of wearing retro jerseys during India’s last tour in 2018-19. At that time Australia sported their 1985 World Series kit. Before this even, Australia and New Zealand both wore their 1999 World Cup uniforms.
Soon after the photo went viral, the new jersey’s likeness with the 1992 World Cup jersey has been pointed out on social media.
Earlier this month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced a deal with MPL Sports, the sports merchandise brand from Mobile Premier League, an e-sports platform. The board’s previous kit sponsorship deal with Nike ended in September this year.
Talking about Team India schedule, they will take on Australia in three ODIs, three T20Is and four Tests. The first two ODIs will be played in Adelaide while final fifty-overs fixture will be played in Canberra.
