Sarfaraz Ahmed has been removed from the captaincy of Pakistan cricket team by Pakistan Cricket team (PCB). The decision was taken on October 18 due to "drop in his overall form".

It is said that Babar Azam will lead the T20 side while Azhar Ali has been appointed as the caption for Test matches.

However, the captain for ODI matches is yet to be finalized as Pakistan did not have any ODI series until July 2020. Apart from scrapping the captaincy, Sarfaraz was dropped from both Test and T20 squads.

After the breaking decision, Sarfaraz expressed his gratitude for all the team members including coaches and selectors. "It has been an honour to lead Pakistan at the highest level. I want to thank all my colleagues, coaches and selectors who have helped me in this journey. My good wishes are with Azhar Ali, Babar Azam and the Pakistan cricket team, and I hope they will continue to grow stronger and stronger," Sarfaraz was quoted as saying by NDTV

"Sarfaraz Ahmed's contributions are second to none and being the gutsy cricketer and fighter that we all know he is, I have no doubts he will be back in Pakistan colours at some stage." read one of the PCB’s statements.
